An Idea in Action

In short, Open Source Software, or OSS, is an idea that is born of the thought that if more people can build, use and test, give feedback about, and then start that process all over again on a software project, the better that product will be. There are thousands of OSS projects that get created, and used and improved on every year.  A few of them are out there on the web and you use them just about eveytime go online. Apache WebServer and GNU/Linux Joomla, FileZilla, FireFox, and many others are open source software that are ubiquitous on the internet and on people's desktops in homes and offices all over the world.

What It Means to You

Free, high quality programs that you can download and use.  There are frequent updates and improvements, but if you like the program that way it works now, you never have to mess with it again.  The best thing about it is that if you REALLy like the software, you can get involved in the community and give suggestions for improvements.  Think Microsoft will listen to your suggestions for their next version of Office, or Windows Live?  Not so much...

Open Source Software can be downloaded from a lot of different places.  It can even be distributed here on BE Enterprises.  When reviews of software are provided, there will be a link to it from the review article.  If you have questions about any software needs you have, just contact us to get a recommendation.  If you like the software recommended, send us a note, and if you don't, just remove it from your computer.
